How the pace calculator works

Pace is time divided by distance. Speed is the inverse (distance per hour). Splits assume even pacing: each kilometre or mile at the same pace, with a partial last split if the distance is not a round number. Switch units anytime; both km and mile equivalents are shown.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate running pace?+

Divide your time by the distance. A 10K in 45:00 is 4:30 per kilometre. This pace calculator does that instantly and also shows speed and even splits.

What is a good running pace?+

It depends on the distance and your fitness. Use a recent race in the Race Time Predictor to estimate equivalent paces, then train most easy kilometres slower than that race pace.

How do I convert min/km to min/mile?+

Multiply a km pace by 1.609344. This tool shows both units so you do not have to convert by hand.

Can I calculate time from a target pace?+

Yes. Switch to “Find time”, enter the distance and the pace you want to hold, and you get the finish time plus splits.

Does this replace a training plan?+

No. A pace calculator tells you the numbers for one run. A plan tells you which paces to hit across weeks so you arrive at the start line ready. That is what Peaking builds.
